This advanced skill is best suited for registrars who wish to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for a large part of their career. If you choose to train in this skill, you’ll need to reflect on your own values, culture, identity, and practice and be willing to adapt.
“Working with Aboriginal clients has given me a deeper appreciation for their healthcare needs. As a roving registrar, I feel like I’m on a medical and cultural journey, learning from GP supervisors and supported by cultural mentors, with the opportunity to travel to and explore different parts of the state.”
– Dr Wissam Ghamrawi, GP registrar currently based at Morgan Medical Practice, on the pathway to a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
