Obstetrics and Gynaecology
In rural SA, many women and their families wish to have their pregnancy and birth managed as close to home as possible. Rural Generalists with specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology training provide this valued service.
In an Obstetrics and Gynaecology placement, you will learn how to:
- safely undertake more complex deliveries and perform more advanced gynaecological procedures;
- provide maternity care from early stages of pregnancy to the birth of a child; and
- provide postnatal and neonatal care.
For Advanced Specialised Training, ACRRM registrars must complete the DRANZOG Advanced; for Advanced Rural Skills Training, RACGP registrars can complete either the DRANZCOG or DRANZCOG Advanced.
Obstetrics is also available to registrars through an Extended Skill.
“I really enjoy working with women and providing them with support through their transitions in life, and I love babies. I think it is just beautiful to work with two patients – the mother and baby – and ensure that the course of their gestation is healthy, and that we intervene appropriately to ensure a safe outcome for both.”
