The geographic, demographic, social and cultural nature of remote Australia brings a range of unique challenges to practising remote medicine.

Remote medicine involves a multidisciplinary approach and can be undertaken through a number of unique ways, including telehealth, fly-in fly-out medical services or mining health services.

In a Remote Medicine placement, you will learn how to:

  • work solo or in a team in geographical locations with minimal resources;
  • diagnose and manage common, acute and chronic illnesses in a remote context; and
  • resuscitate, stabilise and evacuate or retrieve patients.

A variety of remote medicine placements are available across South Australia, including Cummins and Kangaroo Island.

Remote Medicine can only be undertaken through Advanced Skills Training with ACRRM.
