GP Extend: Chronic Pain, a Chronic Dilemma (Barossa Valley)

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. describe the sociopsychobiomedical paradigm for understanding chronic pain, including the pathophysiology and the risk factors for transition from acute to chronic pain;
  2. outline the safe and appropriate use of analgesic and adjuvant medicines in the management of chronic pain with a focus on the cognitive, endocrine and immunological effects;
  3. implement strategies for managing chronic pain including focused psychological and physical therapies, and
  4. understand the risks of dependence and addiction in chronic pain management and implement strategies for de-prescribing for chronic pain patients on opioids and other analgesic and/or adjuvant therapies.
