Meet your Mentor – Dr Emily Kilner

Dr Emily Kilner

I studied physiotherapy and worked as a hospital physio for two years before deciding to become a doctor. I studied medicine at Flinders University and did electives in Darwin and East Timor. My intern and RMO year were spent at SALHN before I went into community GP training at Woodville and Aldinga. I am now a GP at Glenelg and work casually at the Pregnancy Advisory Centre.

I have an interest in women’s health and sexual health, and am passionate about women having control over their fertility choices. I find contraception fascinating and can talk about it all day! I love having a specific procedural skill (IUD insertion) which helps break up the consulting day.

I am keen to help younger doctors develop an interest in general practice, and I want to advocate for general practice as a valid career option.

As a mentor, I am friendly and approachable and happy to provide support for medical students and junior doctors.
