Overview of the National Cervical Screening Program, including updated screening guidelines and the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR)
Description
About this Program
Australia has one of the lowest rates of cervical cancer in the world, largely as a result of the success of the National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP).
Changes to the program since 2017, including the move from Pap Tests to HPV testing and the availability of self-collection as a screening option for all eligible participants, are based on the latest available evidence on the development and prevention of cervical cancer.
This education module is one of five modules developed for healthcare professionals to provide education on the National Cervical Screening Program.
It provides an overview of the National Cervical Screening Program. It discusses primary screening and the use of cytology testing, screening intervals, age ranges for screening, screening options (including self-collection), groups with separate recommendations, and the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR).
This education activity has been developed by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care and the Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC).
