About this Program
This free two hour online program provides palliative care medication education with a specific focus on syringe driver use and opioid prescribing in palliative care.
The training package has been created primarily for GPs, palliative care nurse practitioners and other health professionals with an interest in palliative care in regional and remote South Australia.
The program has been commissioned by Country SA PHN as part of the Greater Choice for At Home Palliative Care program to enable healthcare providers to offer end-of-life care with confidence to palliative patients in their own home setting, including residential aged care homes, with a special emphasis on serving regional and remote communities.
A downloadable completion certificate will be available at the end of the course upon successful completion.
Program Content
Learning Outcomes
This module will assist you to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Plan, prepare and organise for end-of-life care in the home setting.
- Provide culturally appropriate care during the end-of-life process.
- Recognise signs that indicate when a patient is approaching the terminal phase of life.
- Understand the core subcutaneous medications you need to be confident in using when providing end-of-life care for patients at home, including how to prescribe safely and calculate dosages.
- Understand how to use syringe drivers.
- Understand the steps to take after death occurs at home and how to equip yourself to offer support and care for grieving individuals.
