GPEx has secured a three-year extension to manage South Australia’s Statewide GP Obstetric Shared Care Program (GP OSC SA) in collaboration with SA Health. This program facilitates a collaborative approach to maternity care, integrating the expertise of midwives, general practitioners, and obstetricians to support women choosing to give birth in South Australian public hospitals.

The model allows GPs to provide comprehensive antenatal and postnatal care, while hospital staff handle inpatient and maternity needs. This approach not only aligns with SA Health’s Strategic Plan to deliver safe and effective care but also ensures that GPs are continually supported with training and education. The focus is on maintaining continuity of care, with women benefiting from familiar, convenient, and culturally sensitive services. This program is particularly beneficial for healthy women with straightforward pregnancies who prefer avoiding hospital settings when possible.
